Prodigal wandering

Thoughts like

heavy lead

Sinking pulling

My encasing

clenching suffocating

And I push hard a breath

this. is. all. a. lie.

a hail mary

save me

And it floats

toward the surface

chasing the light

and a gasp of freedom

to return my heart to

the race it runs from

And I wait

when he sits down beside me

Dwell on the lovely things

and my bones

begin to rise
